What is it about baby animals that instantly works wonders on us? Is it the cuteness they evoke, or is it more that they are loving, innocent, and caring? I didn't know how to answer that question, so I looked online to see if science could explain it, and I found some really interesting information that helped me understand why I feel the way I do when I look at baby animal memes. You won't believe what I discovered. Apparently, it's common to reach out to little beings when you're feeling blue because they lift your mood.

A 2012 study published by POST ONE found that looking at baby animal memes, pictures, or even real animals improved performance on focus-related tasks and those requiring care and attention. So, besides melting us and letting us enjoy them in the moment, they actually make us more careful, more in tune with our emotions, softer, and more caring. Isn't that just adorable? Who would have thought the power and the effect that these little critters have on us? And the best is that you don't need to travel far to see these animals in real life, since looking them up online works just as well.

But science is just the strong and data-driven answer. What about your feelings? What effect do you feel in your body? In my case, since I've been writing about them for a while, I find myself wanting to look them up and write about them. It's not mandatory, and my boss doesn't demand that I write about animals. It's my personal preference. I've realized that the internet, and life in general, can be hard sometimes, and as humans, we all need a softer, more wholesome energy to keep our spirits up. There's too much to get done, too many rules, and a very long to-do list. It's overwhelming and exhausting. But for some strange reason, animals ground me and keep me from spiraling into anxious thoughts. For me, they're like an anchor that keeps me in the present moment.
